Welcome to DesignExtreme Sports

Having recently spent three years designing and making prototypes for Kitedeck I have developed a passion for not only designing boards for the sport of Kitelandboarding but for Mountainboarding and longboarding, trying to develop something unique which has led me to create Design Extreme Sports who are dedicated to developing Hi Tech equipment within board sports.

Keep your eye on this page to see what I get up to...

After being asked several times if its possible to make carbon fibre trucks for a kitelandbord I thought I would give it a go....

This is what I have come up with so far, I say so far as I have about three designs I like but thought I would start with this one first. I based the design on the reverse kingpin idea found on most longboards (If you have ever seen Randal trucks you will know what I mean) Basically, the truck uses a grade 5 titanium axle wrapped in carbon fibre for its main body and a titanium king pin. The truck also uses standard skate bushings and features two spherical bearings per truck for precise control.

The trucks are being tested for me by Sean Turpin who is sponsored by The Highwaymen and Ozone kites. Sean has only been out in light winds so far and his comments so far are "very smooth and carvey"

The trucks weighs 470grams each in total (hanger only is 370grams)

Another unique feature of the trucks is that they don't have a base plate, they can be bolted directly to the bottom of most decks.

Below is the 1000mm carbon fibre deck and a blue texalium 900mm deck (used for my carbon truck project) to give an idea of scale.

A carbon fibre 15deg deck. Weight comes in at 1.35kg for the deck only. The weight of the Board in the pic is 4.88kg

Above, new prototype Genesis deck, now down to 1044grams!

Most of my work has been designing and developing truck systems such as the Revolution trucks I did while I was with Kitedeck but now I am designing and making Carbon Decks that can compliment this and other truck systems. Having the facilities to create a truck and deck system has led me to design a generic board, The D-EX Genesis, where the deck and the truck system are dedicated to each other, the result is a strong, light board. Trucks are super light weighing in at only 675g each with titanium axles and the decks are coming out at aground 1200g but I am sure this will be below the magic 1kg soon.

Above is a 13ply Kitedeck Reflex that came in for a Genesis upgrade.

Below is the finished board, Genesis type R

Parts used were, Carbon Deck, Titanium Axles, and D-EX 'P' Centers.

Total weight saved, 1,8kg giving the board a weight of 5.24kg

I have also been working on an upgrade for the Kitedeck Reflex. If a rider who has a standard Kitedeck Reflex wants to upgrade to a Carbon fibre deck to save weight they now have the option to not only go the Carbon deck rout but also use some of the parts form their Revolution truck to create there own Genesis. All that is required is new "P" center bodies, and a Carbon deck to create a board like the one in the image below. If they wish to save more weight they also have the option of titanium axles.

Accessories is another area I have been looking at, take a look at the Trampadampa under current projects, these have made a massive difference to Channel truck performance jugging by the feedback I have received.

I have also been looking at replacing some of the hardware on the boards to save even more weight with carbon alternatives. Also a system that can change the flex of your deck I will be calling VFS (Variable Flex System) is being tested now and will be able to fitted to almost any deck, again made from Carbon Fibre.

Keep coming back to see what else we have been up to.
